5 NBA teams in need of a point guard

Point guards have always played an important role in basketball history, and even more so in the NBA. As the style of play has evolved, teams have scrambled to find point guard candidates who can match up with stars such as Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard and James Harden. Among the following NBA teams, they desperately need to fill or upgrade the point guard position:

5. Jazz: Since Conley left, the Jazz have lacked a true organizer on the organizational end. They've tried to put Clarkson or Sexton in that role, but both players are more effective on the offensive end and are better suited to scoring than passing. While the Jazz drafted George this summer as well as signing Dunn and Horton Tucker, who could share the assist duties, it's unlikely that they'll be the starting point guard.

4. Spurs: The Spurs need an organized guard to pair with French rookie Vin Banyama. Having an inside scoring threat would be a point guard's dream, which would greatly boost their assist numbers. Tre Jones has been the starting point guard, but now there may be a better option to fill that spot.

3. Pelicans: The Pelicans need a player who can help move CJ McCollum back to the point guard position. McCollum has always played the role of offensive enabler for the Pelicans, but we all know that he performs better at the point guard position, just like he did for the Blazers. The Pelicans would like to find a pass-first point guard that can form a solid starting five with Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Jonas Valanciunas and CJ McCollum.

2. Bulls: The Bulls need an organizational guard to replace Lonzo Ball. The Bulls built their team around Zach LaVine by getting DeRozan, Vucevic, and Ball, but Ball has missed a lot of playing time due to long-term injuries. With DeRozan and Vucevic getting older, they need an organizational passing guard to control the pace of the game. While Alex Caruso is the fan favorite starting point guard, he is more effective off the bench and can help the team with his scoring ability when the starters are resting.

1. Suns: The Suns need a point guard to balance out the ball-handling distribution of their big three players. The Suns made a splash by getting Bradley Beal to form a big three with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Beal will reportedly be the team's point guard, but his overpowering scoring ability may be somewhat wasted if he switches to an organizational role. The Suns have three of the league's top scorers for the new season, and a point guard in this lineup who focuses solely on creating opportunities for the Big Three would be devastating to opponents.
